Please feel free to contact me if you cannot find the answer to your question.
Counselling is a talking therapy carried out by a trained therapist. There are many different approaches and theories involved in counselling (for my specific approach see 'About Me'), but in general, sessions take place on a weekly basis, and are aimed at providing a safe space for you to share what is going on for you.
Counselling can be really beneficial for people from all different walks of life. Just like many things, peoples expectations and experience of counselling can be very varied. It is therefore really important that you find a therapist that is right for you. You need to feel safe and secure, in order to share what has bought you to counselling, and explore any history, thoughts or feelings that are attached to it.
Having the space and time to process your thoughts and feelings on a weekly basis can be hugely insightful. It can bring about a greater sense of self-awareness regarding your emotions, thoughts and behaviours, and it can also be very therapeutic and bring about a sense of freedom, hope and healing.
No problem! I provide an initial introductory session which is aimed at us both getting a good sense of whether we can work together. There is no obligation to continue after this initial session, but if you feel comfortable to, then we can go ahead and proceed with counselling. Counselling is a personal journey so if for any reason you wish to pause/discontinue your counselling at anytime, you can do so, provided you give enough notice (which is detailed in the contract).
There are lots of different resources on counselling, but in the first instance I would recomend heading to either; Association of Christian Counsellors and Linked Professionals (ACC) or the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
